A letter to our customers -
from Dustin Renn, President of WISPRENN
Happy Independence day from everyone at WISPRENN. For the year 2016, the team here has been working hard on the WISPRENN network. Our focus this year is to continue to build and improve the infrastructure needed to provide High Speed Internet to the High Desert Community.
In terms of upgrades to the network, we have had an extremely successful year, completing a year long goal to create redundancy through the WISPRENN network as well as improve performance in all areas on the network. We have successfully eliminated bottleneck issues on the network which is improving network performance during prime time hours. We are currently working to replace aging and failing equipment, as many of our tower sites are over 5 years old and in need of new and better hardware.
Despite all this, we have received negative reviews lately for the service. I wanted to take some time to address the concerns, questions, and complaints regarding the "constant upgrading" to the network.
WISPRENN was built from the ground up, right here in Apple Valley. It was started as a small company operating out of the garage of my own home. No loans, funding, investors, or government handouts were used to get this company started. It was built only through hard work and a community that wanted better internet options than what was available to us 7 years ago. We serve the areas that not many internet providers are willing to provide service to. Areas that Satellite internet or dial-up internet (yes, it still exists) are the only options. It was not an easy tasks, but with a lot of hard work, we are able to provide service in areas that at one time only had the option of Satellite internet service that came with a hefty price tag and 2 year contract.
I personally installed many of our long term clients, and for those of you who had me as an installer I am sure many of you remember the booth set up on the side of Highway 18 and Bear Valley advertising free internet and free installations.
At the time of its creation, this company maximized the use of every resource available to us at the time in order to provide the best possible High Speed internet to the community that we could. Our goal is, always has been, and always will be to satisfy our customers and not shareholders or investors. Since we did not start with a large infrastructure budget, we were limited in what we could do, but each year, as we grow, better equipment and more possibilities become available to us. Every year, we invest our profits into the infrastructure that benefits our customers the most.
In 2009 when I started WISPRENN, we were only able to provide a max speed of 2 mb download with an upload speed of 256kb. This was slightly under DSL services at the time. Our coverage area was only a small portion of the Milpas area in outer Apple Valley. 7 years later we have been able to increase our average download speed to 8 mb and our coverage area spans a large portion of the San Bernardino High Desert community from Lucerne Valley all the way to Pearblossom. If we were to imagine that the WISPRENN network was the road everyone used to get to work everyday, then a perfect example would be that WISPRENN has gone from a backwoods dirt country trail, to a main street avenue, and is now a large highway. There are still traffic jams in places during the busy hours, but we are working diligently to relieve congestion and turn this highway into a freeway.
Each year brings us more options in terms of infrastructure allowing more people to work from home, enjoy recreational internet activities, and participate in online communities and games. Our growth has not stopped with our infrastructure, speed improvements, and our coverage area. WISPRENN has also grown as company, helping to provide jobs and technology related services to the community, such as our sister company Cystruct. I am also very proud to say WISPRENN does not outsource any of Phone or Field Support positions. All Field Technicians and Phone Support Technicians that work for WISPRENN are local High Desert residence.
I bring up our past and where we started so that our newer clients are aware of what this company is and what we are trying to do. We have built all of the wireless infrastructure that provides WISPRENN service ourselves and we are working on improving that service constantly. We do not claim to be a competitor to Verizon FIOS service or Charter Fiber optical service. WISPRENN services areas outside
the city that do not have other options for High Speed Internet. While we are always providing our customer and network with the best possible technology, the equipment we were work with is still new and being developed and has its limitations.
With that in mind, technology is always devolping and it is our job, here at WISPRENN, to make sure that the best technology is being used in the service for you. With the added growth and widespread usage of services such as Netflix, Hulu, and online gaming services there is a larger demand for faster and better services which we are working daily to meet. We here at WISPRENN will never be satisfied at stopping where we are. We will always be moving forward, we will always be improving. This is what we demand of ourselves, our company, and the service we provide to you.
I would like to ask you for your patience while we work to replace obsolete equipment on the network over the next few months. Network maintenance is not always something you will be able to see or measure the results of right away, but over time, the results will become clear.
I also ask of you to show your support of WISPRENN by providing us with a rating of our service on Facebook or Google. We would love to hear from those who are happy with the WISPRENN service, and if you have had a positive experience with one of our Phone Support or Field Support technicians, we would love it if you would post about it online.
You can post on our Facebook reviews page which can be found on
or on
I want to thank all of you for your continued support of WISPRENN, and we look forward to serving you and bringing better communication to our community.
